All cells in the body need energy. Therefore, energy is the secret master of the system, ahead of all other control systems. 

Organic and subtle energy

Energy is our highest good on a personal and universal level. While energy can be described as a denser form of “light”, one of the principles of our existence, light alone cannot keep we humans healthy and alive (at least not for the moment).

While many people who are interested in personal development or spirituality are interested in “light”, subtle energy and energy healing, they often forget that working with subtle energies cannot work if there is not enough organic energy available.

Energy production requires resources


Therefore it is important to understand what organic energy is and how it is “produced”, i.e. how we as humans get energy, because life is not possible without energy.


Energy depends on resources. Humans, animals, plants and machines consume physical resources to produce energy, heat, movement and growth (if they are living beings).


In the same way as physical resources are limited, so is energy. An abundance of energy enables a wealth of warmth, movement and growth. Limited energy limits heat, movement and growth. Where there is no energy, there is death.

How do we produce energy in our human bodies?

Mitochondria: energy factories inside the body

The only way to generate energy is in the mitochondria of our cells.

Like the human body, our cells have organs. One of these organs is the mitochondria, our own tiny power plants.

ATP

In the fully functional human metabolism, mitochondria produce energy and heat from glucose, oxygen, minerals and trace elements as well as vitamins using the so-called citrate cycle by aerobic respiration.

As with all organic energy, it must have the property of being organically “tangible” and have the ability to be stored. The body has chosen adenosine triphosphate (ATP) as a suitable medium. ATP is the energy currency of our body and the means of transporting organic energy.


One cell can contain up to 25% of ATP. Some cells, such as red blood cells, do not contain mitochondria, whereas liver cells may contain much more ATP than other cells. The amount of mitochondria in a cell is not static, it can adapt to the organism’s energy needs. The amount of mitochondria increases with light (especially red and infrared light) and decreases in darkness.

The “whether” of energy production

The production of thyroid hormones depends on the supply of glucose and glycogen (stored glucose) in the liver. If the glucose supply is in danger of becoming scarce, the thyroid gland produces fewer thyroid hormones. This makes sense because thyroid hormones increase the basal metabolic rate, which is not a good idea in conditions of extreme hunger. 

The “how” of energy production

How a cell produces energy is not only dependent on glucose, thyroid hormone and oxygen, but also on micronutrients such as minerals, trace elements, vitamins and other substances. Think of a fireplace with a big fire that produces a lot of smoke and soot. This is similar to states where energy production (oxidation) is high but antioxidants are low. Here, antioxidants such as vitamin A, E or C are increasingly used to fight free radicals. Sooner or later, free radicals also cause excessive damage to the mitochondria themselves and generally cause the body to age. This is why micronutrients are also necessary for optimal energy production.

Mitochondriopathy


When mitochondria are not fully functioning, they enter a state of mitochondriopathy (“diseased” mitochondria). When a cell loses energy through mitochondriopathy, calcium enters the cell. Energy blockages: starvation then full troughs

But not every energy deficiency is due to a problem in energyproduction. There may also be a blockage that exists independently of any nutrient supply. In this case, the body starves to death when the troughs are full, as it were. 

Energy blockages can make themselves known via all possible sources in the body. Very central energy blockages can manifest from the psyche and the nervous system or through epigenetic disorders. These become more violent due to the role of the nervous system as the head of the organism, by changing the concepts of our original blueprint, the genes. 

Energy blockages can be affected by all substances and agents that are not directly involved in energy production. These can be material substances such as medications, but from the perspective of naturopathy also energetic measures such as acupuncture, homeopathy, etc. Ultimately, every form of psychotherapy and even movement must be considered energetic measures in this sense.
